Adorned with an electric light halo, she stands in the hallway leading to my daughter's classroom.

ReplyDeleteWelcome back to the school routine!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful icon to greet the kids as they start their days in school. xo
ReplyDeleteThat's quite an icon you chose. She seems like a very welcoming mascot for the school.
ReplyDeleteindeed an icon!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of my school days - happy memories.
ReplyDeletefor your corner very iconic indeed. How peaceful for the kids to see her every morning.
ReplyDeletehave a great school year!
Yes, I can't imagine Italy without the Madonna.
ReplyDeleteLook at that face.
ReplyDeleteHow could anything possibly go wrong when we have our Mother Mary covering us with her precious Mantle of Love and protection....awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I assume this is a public school? In Sicily, crucifixes and Madonnas in schools and other public places are becoming a bit controversial as immigrants move in. I'm not Catholic, but I like them--they're like icons of Italy to me rather than religious symbols.
ReplyDeleteThanks, friends.
ReplyDelete@Jann. . . Well, actually, she attends a private Catholic school. Though, I have seen religious icons in public/government places here in the North. I, too, see it as a part of the cultural identity of the nation.
I'm not religious, but I love the cultural heritage of Mother Mary. Beautiful icon!
ReplyDeleteNicki
you're definitely in the land of the madonna icon :)
ReplyDeletelove the tacky halo (is it wrong to call it tacky? ;P)
