corner view :: hot
Venice + July = HOT = much hydration = frequent potty breaks = lots of encounters with funky, icky bathrooms = unpleasant experience
Moral of the story: Don't visit Venice in sweltering July when the rest of God's kingdom is there, and choose your bars (where you stop to buy a coffee, spritz or additional bottle of water so you and the little people with you can use the bathroom) wisely! This one fooled us from the street, with a lovely facade and tables on the sidewalk. The toilet is actually outside, behind the bar in a sort of out house; inside of the little hovel is just gross. I suppose the positive is that it is well ventilated! We currently have a visitor from the States, so we are making the rounds of hot spots in the Veneto region during his stay...otherwise I don't think I'd venture to Venice in July. Ever.

For more corner views, visit Francesca. I'm off to make a pie. It is the 4th of July, after all.
Unfortunately I don't think there's a single place in Italy where public bathrooms are half (a quarter?) decent. Sometimes museums are the best bet.
ReplyDeleteYes. Museums and stops along the Autostrada that are indoors with attendants. I always leave a tip...what a job.
DeleteI can imagine! Venice is a gorgeous city but you can definitely enjoy it more away from the summer time. One day I will get back there with my husband (and we'll remember your advise about the toilets!).

It is gorgeous. I think spring or fall might be a better time.
DeleteSadly I can smell the urine that is even more intense with the heat. Yuck!
ReplyDeleteyep. YUCK!
DeleteA pie in the heat! Or is it cooler where you are? I would go for red white and blue ice cream! Happy 4th of July!
ReplyDeleteNOT cooler...trust me!
DeleteVenice + July + hottest month of the year = I agree it is a no no. But then, if it is with friends, after all why not?
ReplyDeleteOf course...so we went!
