(or what I did on my summer vacation)

July 31, 2010

The little bottle of spicy goodness that can be found all over the world (no, really, I'm not joking -- pay attention, it's everywhere) was created in the 1860's in one of the southernmost parts of Louisiana by a Mr. Edmund McIlhenny.

We visited Avery Island, to include a tour of the Tabasco factory, where we learned about "le petit baton rouge" used to test the doneness of the peppers, and a hike through the Jungle Gardens, this summer.  Mon Dieu, it was hot . . . H.O.T.  . . .  hotter 'n hot. Let's not mention the humidity. We melted right before each other's eyes.

Don't you love looking at other people's holiday photos?  All of 24 them. (I have more :)
Ever think you'd see such a Buddha in the southernmost part of Louisiana?
Aren't the live oaks incredible?
One rascal of a nephew is missing from this day.  His name is Zach, and he is 6.  He spent the day with his horse instead.
Did you know that Avery Island is a salt dome island?

Can you tell that the sun was fierce? I don't have a trick for taking photos in fierce LA sun.
We were there at high noon.  Ouch.
If you have the chance to go, try the spring or fall -- avoid LA in the summer.

  6. I love love love looking at others' holiday photos!

it really looks like it was hot... Not realy for me this kind of fierce sun but the places look stunning.

As for Sardinia, we stayed in the north, in Santa Teresa di Gallura and it was just perfect: not many tourists in that time of year (May) and so close to Capo Testa which is a great place to explore as well as Island of La Maddalena with its breathtaking views. Plus very clean and almost empty beaches.

    Have a great day,
    un abbraccio
    Kasia

  10. Thank for the taste and sight of home :) I have such good memories of roaming Avery Island as a kid and love taking my kids whenever we are home for a visit. When the birds are roosting in the spring, it is quite a memorable thing to witness.

  13. I love live oaks, I think they are just gorgeous. Loved the pictures too. That's one of the places I meant to get to while we lived in Louisiana and I never made it there. I've been missing Louisiana lately, this post didn't help!
