Non-Newtonian Fluid Fun

cornstarch3

I guess you've heard that we've had a bit of rain in these parts lately.  Lots of rain calls for a bit of creativity with indoor activities to combat that old monster we all know and abhor:  boredom.  We finally dug into a science experiment kit and found some fun.  While the girls loved the crystals and the "explosions," my favorite was the discovery of non-Newtonian fluid created with simple corn starch and water.

Is it a solid or is it a liquid?  Hmmmm. . . neither, its ooze.

I'll never look at Thanksgiving gravy the same again . . .

  1. We did that experiment not too long ago. I think I had more fun than the kids!

  2. My children have always loved these kind of experiments. They love the volcano one you make with baking soda. Also putting a mentos in a coke bottle.
