corner view :: monument
Is a battlefield with original canons a monument? Maybe? Kinda? I'm posting images from our summer 2011 travels: Manasses National Battlefield Park, where the famous Battles of Bull Run took place. Monumental in American history, no?

Yes of course. I think all children everywhere are impelled to climb them too!
ReplyDeleteI was considering doing a cannon for my monument. Why does every town have a park that features a cannon? A strange piece of playground equipment.
ReplyDeletethe fence is really impressive.
ReplyDeleteAs a monument is mostly something to honour or remember certain historic events, I would consider this quite clearly as a monument. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThose fences are great.
ReplyDeleteThere were so many battles in that part of the country. I like being there now, it's so peaceful in Virginia.
Thank God for any peace we have on the planet.
no doubt! it is, and a impressing one! greetings from Paris!
ReplyDeleteAmerican Civil War? History can be very subjective ... I never heard of that battle, and if it was mentioned in Gone With the Wind, I missed it (not a joke - I loved the book). Still, *someone* clearly enjoyed the lesson! :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely monumental! And I hope that canon is not loaded!
ReplyDeleteWe have a similar photo of our littles on a canon too! My hubby is your home state as we speak. So jealous!
ReplyDeletethis is a monumental thing for america and a lovely play garden for kids!
ReplyDeleteCanons: toys for the big boys back then, toys for the little girl now ;-)
ReplyDeleteShe's sticking her head in a cannon. SHE'S STICKING HER HEAD IN A CANNON!
ReplyDeleteTotally counts. :-)
At first glance, I thought it might be Gettysburg, PA. I have similar photos from our vacation there several years ago.
ReplyDeleteI think it's great that you take the kids to such places. Our national history is important, I think.
