the waw-waw, part 2

The next day I picked up Young One and her friend AC from summer camp and since it was Friday we made a stop for gelato before heading home. You know, to celebrate the end of a great week at centro estivo. These kids are STILL on summer break!

A favorite topic of conversation for them is "when we were little," and this day the conversation drifted to birth stories. Young One was delivered by emergency Caesarean section and that girl loves the drama associated with her entry into this big beautiful world. She especially loves to hear the story from Richard, again and again and again. He's a great storyteller.

She's retelling the part about her mamma's belly being cut open by the doctor when she turns to me and asks with great sincerity, "So I know Daddy was there with you and that you were scared, Mamma. Is this when he had to take off his underwear, and, you know?" It was accompanied by hip gyrating motion. The gelato was being devoured the entire time: two scoops, in a cone, stracciatella & pistachio.

I suppose Sara wasn't clear about the timing of the entrance of the waw-waw.

I ordered some books.

I'll let you know how it goes.

  1. I think I would have just about spit out my gelato at that point. I don't know how you have been able to keep a straight face. I guess the good thing is about boys is they really don't take about these kind of things, but husband always gives them the talk at 10 if they haven't started asking questions. We choose 10 because the kids in Germany seem to be a little more advance on this subject and wanted them to hear it from the right place. I guess I will have the girls when they get old enough.

    1. I was having a drink in lieu of gelato at that point ;)
I don't find that the Italian girls are more advanced in any way. In fact, if anything, it's just the opposite. There could be tons of reasons for that observation, the least of which is our particular subset of the American population here.

I do need her to get the story straight, though. I've always been very open with answers to her questions. I just wasn't expecting this one....yet! Thanks, Sara!

    1. Yes. We are STILL laughing. She has since dropped it. I'm waiting for the books.
