Tomatoes, Basil, Mozzarella, & Olive Oil |
I made these last week to bring to one of the many end-of-year parties. I was amazed how something so simple caused such excitement among the guests. One even asked for a recipe -- huh?! Maybe it was the Margarita talking, I don't know. Another inquired about the amount of time it must have taken me. I assembled them pretty quickly actually -- picking out the red toothpicks from the box of multicolored ones took the most time. The rainbow look wasn't working for me at the moment. I didn't share that, though.
My basil plants are looking beautiful right about now, and I'm convinced that these were sooo tasty because of the absolutely fresh basil from my garden. I have plans for this pesto, too, with a bit of that basilico.
I've got a ton of basil right now too! I have a big summer bash to go to in a couple of weeks, and guess what I'll be bringing? Your wonderful idea here...due to the gorgeous photos! This is one of my favorite appetizers and perfect on a warm afternoon :)
ReplyDeleteTry the pesto, too! I've never made my own and am looking forward to using Francesca's recipe.
ReplyDeleteThose are so pretty!
ReplyDeleteSomeone just told me that all the herbs you buy in this country have been legally sprayed with all sorts of nasty pesticides because they're considered "plants" and not "foodstuff" ... keep watering your basil!
Happy pesto making!
Yum. We make tomato, mozzarella, arugula, pesto and vinaigrette sandwiches like 3 times a week. These are so cute too!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a tasty sandwich. . .
ReplyDeleteInteresting about the pesticides. Many people think that all food that we get in Italy is somehow better, pesticide free & not genetically modified. I see the farmers here spraying and spraying and spraying some more -- even on those peas and cherries that we cherish so much. Deep breath.
It couldn't get any better than that. Last week I had the most amazing salad that was baby mozarella balls, cherry tomatoes, basil, chopped Romane, cucumber, and shaved fennal with a light vinegarette. I have been craving it every day since.
ReplyDeleteOh. .. that salad sounds just delicious. I understand the reason for the craving!
ReplyDeleteI just finished making them for this afternoon's party! Thanks for helping me out ;)
ReplyDeleteI think I may need to feature this on south of rome, can I use your photo?? My camera e rotto! E triste!!! Grazie!! - K
