LOC Photochroms of Italy on Flickr

I've recently learned that the Library of Congress (LOC) has a photostream on Flickr. Oh, the possibilities. I love Flickr more and more each day.

The LOC is currently uploading parts of its photochrom collection, to include many from Italy.

What's a photochrom?

"Published primarily from the 1890s to 1910s, these prints were created by the Photoglob Company in Z├╝rich, Switzerland, and the Detroit Publishing Company in Michigan. The richly colored images look like photographs but are actually ink-based photolithographs, usually 6.5 x 9 inches. " -- Flickr

Check it out here or here . . . so cool. I will be ordering a print or two this summer to use to spiffy up the school library this fall. Can't wait. I mean, how incredibly cool is this laundry shot from Napoli.  Think they were stressing over it as much as we do today?
