I've recently learned that the Library of Congress (LOC) has a photostream on Flickr. Oh, the possibilities. I love Flickr more and more each day.
The LOC is currently uploading parts of its photochrom collection, to include many from Italy.
What's a photochrom?
"Published primarily from the 1890s to 1910s, these prints were created by the Photoglob Company in Zürich, Switzerland, and the Detroit Publishing Company in Michigan. The richly colored images look like photographs but are actually ink-based photolithographs, usually 6.5 x 9 inches. " -- Flickr
Check it out here or here . . . so cool. I will be ordering a print or two this summer to use to spiffy up the school library this fall. Can't wait. I mean, how incredibly cool is this laundry shot from Napoli. Think they were stressing over it as much as we do today?
