new Italian idiom learned

2 Teeth Gone

Che bella finestra!
(What a nice window!)

---------------------------------------

The Tooth Fairy visits our house to leave coins under the pillow in exchange for lost teeth, instead of il topino (the little mouse) who visits Italian children in this part of Italy. Young One recently confided with me that she doesn't share that fact with her Italian classmates because they just wouldn't understand, and she just doesn't want to have to convince a bunch of skeptic first graders. With them, she pretends that it's il topino, (wink, wink) who secretly crawls under her pillow. This is a skill that I did not learn until much later in life...good for her.

Do we have a similar idiom in English to refer to missing those two front teeth? I can't seem to think of it.

  2. What a cutie!

I've never heard that saying before, but it's so appropriate.

Good to know that the tooth fairy makes a stop at a few homes even way over it Italy :)

  4. How cute! I don't remember if there's something similar for Latin American houses, but I do vaguely remember throwing our teeth on the roof of the house. I think it has something to do with good luck, but don't quote me.

  6. She's adorable! And I'd much rather think that a fairy visits me at night than a mouse....eek!
