Chestnuts are tickling my fancy.
It's chestnut time. Did you know that they really are roasted on an open fire? In the piazza in the middle of the pedestrian zone in Padova?
You did know those chestnut facts, you say? Do you know where all those wooden crates used for fruits and vegetables in markets go? I bet you thought they were all reused or, at least, repurposed here in Italy.
Hmmm....
Does firewood qualify as repurposing?

They are fueling the fire in Padova.
We can't get enough, of the chestnuts, not the burning wooden crates.
My only memory of ever eating chestnuts takes me back to when I was a small girl living in Italy. We roasted them over a fire in our house at Christmas time. It is a happy memory ! I'm glad chestnuts were ticking your fancy this week ...
ReplyDeleteHere is my ”WHATEVER” !
roasted chestnuts, the one (and only, as far as I'm concerned) reason to love this time of year!
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous! I have never tasted a roasted chestnut. I'm sure they're very yummy :-)

ReplyDeleteaaaaw. same in barcelona. only it's 25 degrees in barcelona at the mo. climate change doesn't agree with tradition...
ReplyDeleteWell that's what the song says! Chestnuts are so beautiful. They grew on a huge tree down the street where I grew up, in the front yard of a farmer where we used to buy peaches and corn. I loved to gather them and feel their shiny wood-like shells.
ReplyDeleteDo you like the taste? Fascinating. This has always just been part of a Christmas song for me and nothing else.
ReplyDeleteThat's how automn smells!
ReplyDeleteI have tried making chestnut paté once, but didn't particularly like it.
ReplyDeleteWe make chestnut dolls sometimes. And then throw them in the fire, to see them burn. So cruel ;-)
