corner view :: things that make you go hmmmm

18/52 Food (Dana)

I'm pretty open to trying new things, and even when I don't like something at first, I'll give it a second or third try ...  but try as I might, I cannot develop a taste for Crodino -- "... in Italy it is the non-alcoholic single serve aperitif par excellence, the most consumed, the most renowned. The secret of its success is the unique and appetising flavour obtained thanks to the traditional extract drawn from a mix of infusion and distillated herbs, plants and fruit pieces that are rigorously selected."  Whatever. I'm not buying it. One sip and I'm totally saying "Hmmmmmm?!" and thinking up cocktail recipes that would need just a dash of this bitter.

  1. Our friends served this drink to me last year when I was in Rome. Try as I might, I could not get it down. Too bitter. Maybe, it would be good mixed with something else. I hear it is good for the stomach.

  2. I don't know that. Now I like to have a little sip to go Hmmmmm, too! At least the bottles look nice!

  3. We never had that when we visited your country. I do not think I would like it.

  4. I think there's a hmmmm for a lot of the non-alcoholic substitutes. The virgin mixed drinks are usually very good like virgin margaritas, but a straight from the bottle substitute--I haven't found one.

The bottles look nice, but what I understand it is not really hmmmmm?

  6. When I see these I immediately want to to pronounce it "crud - ino" which doesn't sound appetizing(!) but I would think, Hmmm, I could reuse those cute little bottles, drink up everyone

  9. I'm not a cocktail person, and I never had a crodino. I'm a campari girl :)
PS "was" here would be more appropriate.

  10. Not heard of this before, but I'd give it a try just to see. As they say 'don't knock it until you've tried it'!

  12. It's true! Here in Italy, Crodino is the "aperitif par excellence".
Alternatively (in the non-alcoholic department) there's the "Sanbitter" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCCslRHyXu8) but really, is considered the poor man's Crodino, so is rarely seen around. :)

    1. I didn't know that one was more "chic" than the other... Is it like "Campari" vs "Aperol," or not quite the same thing? I'm an Aperol girl.

  13. I know the Crodino stuff and have tried it. Too bitter for me. I'm sticking with sherry and whisky. Just a sip, now and then ;-)

    1. Nicki... we've concocted a cocktail of Aperol (which is very smiliar to Crodino) and Maker's Mark whisky with a cherry or two! Yum!
